Architectural design: It defines the relationship between major structural elements of the software. It is about decomposing the system into interacting components. It is expressed as a block diagram defining an overview of the system structure – features of the components and how these components communicate with each other to share data. It defines the structure and properties of the component that are involved in the system and also the inter-relationship among these components.

User Interfaces design: It represents how the Software communicates with the user i.e. the behavior of the system. It refers to the product where user interact with controls or displays of the product. For example, Military, vehicles, aircraft, audio equipment, computer peripherals are the areas where user interface design is implemented. UI design becomes efficient only after performing usability testing. This is done to test what works and what does not work as expected. Only after making the repair, the product is said to have an optimized interface.

Component level design: It transforms the structural elements of the software architecture into a procedural description of software components. It is a perfect way to share a large amount of data. Components need not be concerned with how data is managed at a centralized level i.e. components need not worry about issues like backup and security of the data.

Design must be traceable to the analysis model:

Analysis model represents the information, functions, and behavior of the system. Design model translates all these things into architecture – a set of subsystems that implement major functions and a set of component kevel design that are the realization of Analysis classes. This implies that design model must be traceable to the analysis model.

Always consider architecture of the system to be built:

Software architecture is the skeleton of the system to be built. It affects interfaces, data structures, behavior, program control flow, the manner in which testing is conducted, maintainability of the resultant system, and much more.

Data design encompasses the manner in which the data objects are realized within the design. It helps to simplify the program flow, makes the design and implementation of the software components easier, and makes overall processing more efficient.

User interfaces should consider the user first:

The user interface is the main thing of any software. No matter how good its internal functions are or how well designed its architecture is but if the user interface is poor and end-users don’t feel ease to handle the software then it leads to the opinion that the software is bad.

Coupling of different components into one is done in many ways like via a component interface, by messaging, or through global data. As the level of coupling increases, error propagation also increases, and overall maintainability of the software decreases. Therefore, component coupling should be kept as low as possible.

The data flow between components decides the processing efficiency, error flow, and design simplicity. A well-designed interface makes integration easier and tester can validate the component functions more easily.

It means that functions delivered by component should be cohesive i.e. it should focus on one and only one function or sub-function.

It is comprised of six different phases, similar to the software development life cycle. These phases can go parallel to the development process or can be completed as the last step of the software development life cycle process, depending on the methodology used to develop the application software.

This is the first phase of the software testing life cycle. After that, requirements analysis is the most important phase because it is the base phase for all software development; if we made a mistake in requirements analysis, the wrong software could be delivered to the client.

In this phase quality assurance team first understands the requirements of the software to identify the parts that need to be tested. Then, for more understanding of the requirement, QA i.e.quality assurance team may meet different organizations like business organizations, stakeholders, development team, technical team, design team, etc. Once the requirements of the software are fixed, the QA team identifies the components or parts of the software or system to be tested.

This is the second phase of the software testing life cycle. This phase is known as the test strategy because the test strategy is planned in this phase. The test manager carried out this activity, where he is taking care of all the things related to testing like how much effort it requires, how much it cost for testing the whole project, and which types of testing need to be done for which component. This is the third phase of the software testing life cycle. Once the test planning is done, the work of test cases begins. In this phase, the testing team designs the test cases for test execution in detail. It also prepares the information, i.e. data for test cases. After the test cases are designed, they are delivered to the peer team or quality control, i.e. QA team, for an examination.

The test case is good if it identifies errors quickly and solves them immediately under the test.

The characteristics of a good test case are

Generate the same result every time for the same test.

This is the fourth phase of the software testing life cycle. This phase is a vital part of STLC. Test environment setup is setting up all the resources like software and hardware for the testing team to execute all the test cases. The customer or the organization does not do the testing team’s test environment setup. Instead, the testing team prepares the smoke test for executing the test environment setup.

This is the fifth phase of the software testing life cycle. It executed the test with code and compared it with the expected result, and analyses the report. The testing team executes tests based on test planning and strategies. While the execution of the test, the test analyst marks the test report.

If the test case is successfully executed, it is marked as passed.

If the test case if failed, it is marked as failed, and the corresponding defect is reported to the software developer team

If the test case is blocked because of an error, then it is marked as blocked. Once the defect is solved, the test cases that are marked as blocked or failed are tested again to ensure that they are fixed.

This is the final phase of the software testing life cycle. In this phase, the meeting of the software testers is carried out to evaluate the test coverage based on the requirements of the software, test cases, cost, time, quality assurance.

Analysis of test cases and the bug report is carried out to find defect distribution by the type. Once the test cycle is completed test cycle closure report is prepared. Finally, the test leader prepares test cycle closure.
