How can I install MariaDB 10.5 on Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal Fossa) server?. MariaDB is a popular drop-in replacement for MySQL database server with more features, new storage engines, and better performance. You can check a complete list of MariaDB 10.5 features from the official website. The MariaDB database server is published as free and open-source software under the General Public License version 2.

To install MariaDB 10.5 on Ubuntu 20.04, you need to add MariaDB repository on to the system. Then the installation of MariaDB 10.5 on Ubuntu 20.04 will be done from the APT repository added without any issues.

Ensure your system is updated and install software-properties-common package.

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt -y install software-properties-common

Step 2: Import MariaDB gpg key (only Ubuntu 20.04)

Run the command below to add Repository Key to the system:

sudo apt-key adv --fetch-keys 'https://mariadb.org/mariadb_release_signing_key.asc'

Step 3: Add MariaDB APT repository(only Ubuntu 20.04)

After importation of repository GPG key, add the APT repository by running the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository 'deb [arch=amd64] http://mariadb.mirror.globo.tech/repo/10.5/ubuntu focal main'

Step 4: Install MariaDB 10.5 Server on20.04|22.04

The last step is the installation of MariaDB Server:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install mariadb-server mariadb-client

Hit the y key to accept installation of MariaDB 10.5 on Ubuntu 20.04 Linux.

Step 5: Secure MariaDB Server on20.04|22.04

You have to manually run the MySQL hardening script.

$ sudo mysql_secure_installation

For users who encounter issues with "This system is not registered with an entitlement server. You can use subscription-manager to register," then use the following command to remove the subscription manager as it is unnecessary for CentOS stream to receive updates, unlike RHEL.

As mentioned above, all the subscription-based lockouts have been removed.

First, update your system to ensure all existing packages are up to date. This will ensure no conflicts arise as best as possible during the installation.

First, import the Vivaldi repository using the following command.

sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo https://repo.vivaldi.com/archive/vivaldi-fedora.repo

The repository states Fedora. However, this is a standard repo for all versions and works well for CentOS 9.

Now that you have imported the repository, you can install Vivaldi using the following.

Confirm the version and build of the Vivaldi Browser version installed on your operating system using the following command:

Optional – Install Vivaldi Snapshot (Nightly)

Run the following command for users or developers who want to test Vivaldi’s development version.

Note, stick with Stable for your daily browsing, do not use the development version for any serious browsing or transactions.

Alternatively, you can install both versions together using the following command.

sudo dnf install vivaldi-stable vivaldi-snapshot -y

First you will be need CentOS Stream 9 installed on an x86_64 host

As EPEL is still practically empty, you do not have to enable that to install syslog-ng. Just enable my repo and install the packages you need. Sub-packages automatically install the base syslog-ng package. For example the following commands install syslog-ng together with its http() destination:

wget https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/czanik/syslog-ng-centos9-experiment/repo/centos-stream-9/czanik-syslog-ng-centos9-experiment-centos-stream-9.repo

There is one little problem: log rotation. If you want proper log rotation, remove the rsyslog package which conflicts with the syslog-ng-logrotate package and then install the sub-package for log rotation:
